Since Daoist Traditions’ founding in 2003, the college has grown in size and reputation while remaining a single-purpose institution, dedicated to Chinese Medicine education. We are a small college by choice, offering the opportunity for you to get to know your instructors and classmates.

Students are encouraged to participate in regular self-cultivation practices such as qi gong, meditation, and journaling. Cultivation activities are woven into our master's program curriculum to help beginning students reflect on their development as a healer. As a result of these practices throughout their studies, students learn a lot about themselves, making Daoist Traditions College more than just an academic institution – it is transformative.

Our name reflects the profound relationship between Daoist philosophy and the origins of Chinese medicine. Early Daoist scholars and physicians emphasized careful observation of natural patterns, an approach that remains central to clinical diagnosis and treatment today. Their inquiry, experimentation, and dedication to cultivation helped shape the evolution of Chinese medicine as both a healing art and a disciplined body of knowledge. At Daoist Traditions, we honor the classical roots while preparing students to meet the complexities of contemporary healthcare.

Our student body consists of a mix of those who have recently completed their undergraduate studies and professionals returning to school. While students come to Daoist Traditions for individual reasons, they share a common purpose - to study this medicine so they can help others.

The natural world moves in patterned cycles: seasonal rotation, circadian rhythms, the waxing and waning of the moon, and the predictable movement of Qi in the body. These processes demonstrate that change unfolds within recognizable structures. Historically, Daoist cultivation traditions have required disciplined practice, ethical conduct, structured training, and consistent refinement. In this same spirit, our academic programs maintain clear standards, defined schedules, and consistent expectations. These policies are not separate from our Daoist foundation — they reflect it and allow mastery and transformation to occur.

Throughout its long history, Chinese medicine has been a dynamic and evolving medical art and science. Whether you want to begin a new career or continue your Chinese medicine education, we invite you to explore more with us.
