Student Services

Daoist Traditions offers student services and activities to make your experience both rewarding and successful. Through participation in organizations, events, and activities, students create the community that will support them both during school and into the future.

Communications

All students are provided with a Daoist Traditions email address which is used for all email communications. Phone calls are made when information is time-sensitive. We utilize Canvas for all classroom activities and communications. Students are also provided with an on-campus mailbox for receiving notices.

Meetings

Orientation is scheduled for all students each semester. These all-school meetings are an opportunity to make announcements and communicate updates to the larger community. Each semester students are invited to attend President’s Receptions to foster open lines of communication between the student body and the administration. Additionally, curriculum review meetings provide an opportunity for students to share feedback on their courses.

Community Development

Daoist Traditions is dedicated to preserving its strong student community and offers team-building exercises at orientation each semester to support the bond between students and their cohort.

Accommodations

Information about the technical skills and other requirements for our programs and accommodations can be found in the college catalog. Details are included on the accommodations request forms, which can be found on our policies pageFor accommodation questions, please contact Rachel Nowakowski at rnowakowski@daoisttraditions.edu.

Tutoring

Peer tutoring is a free service which provides one-on-one assistance for students having difficulties in specific courses. Peer tutors are advanced students who have achieved success in their courses and enjoy learning by teaching others. Private tutoring with faculty members is available upon request.

Career Development

The college offers courses in practice management and marketing to help students become successful practitioners. Clinical interns are encouraged to take initiative to build their clientele through self-promotion and outreach in the community. Students can hone their presentation skills by participating in open houses, health fairs, and speaking at public events.

Registration and Transcripts

The Registrar’s Office provides service regarding course registration, grade reporting, and transcript requests and is guided by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) in managing student information.

Health Services

The Daoist Traditions College Clinic is a place for both student education and quality healthcare. Students are encouraged to receive acupuncture treatments to stay healthy and to help ease the stress of studying. Enrolled students receive discounted healthcare services at the clinic.

Library

The library collections contain a broad selection of publications on Chinese medicine, western medicine, and related topics. The collection includes texts, journals, and audio/visual aids. The library collection and journal databases can be searched online. The library and computer lounge provide wireless internet, copy and print services, and library staff to assist students.

Student ID Cards

Each student is issued an identification card. The card can be used for a variety of discounts in the Asheville area and online.

Student Organizations

Activities and organizations that meet the needs of students and focus on academic achievement are encouraged. Students interested in forming new organizations must complete an Application for Student Organization and be approved by the dean of students. All organizations must follow the guidelines set by the college.

Student Representation

The Student Government Association works to enhance the student experience at Daoist Traditions and to promote leadership and participation within the student body. The SGA encourages students to work together for support and inspires students to take part in policies relating to Chinese medicine at large. Social events and activities that enhance student learning are offered throughout the year. Each MAHM cohort elects a class representative. Elections are held annually. Contact the SGA for more information at sga@daoisttraditions.edu

Other Activities

The annual convocations such as Lunar New Year and the graduation ceremony are important mechanisms for celebration, enjoyment, and balance in the students’ schedule. Each spring, the administration and clinical faculty host dinner receptions for students entering the third and fourth years to honor the milestones in their clinical training.

Placement Assistance

The college receives notices regularly for professional opportunities. Graduating students can search the online directory for job openings, space to rent, and practices for sale.

Alumni Relations

The administration strives to keep graduates connected to the college, on both social and professional levels. Continuing education courses and social events invite graduates to return to the college and meet with faculty, other alumni, and students. Alumni are welcome to continue using the library resources on campus and to attend courses for a discount. Visit our Alumni Benefits page for more.
